Here at Kindai JHS/SHS we are doing many new and interesting things to expand and enrich our learning. We are actively engaged in learning about our community and about the amazing people we live with here in Higashi-Hiroshima. From September, the Kindai English Speaking Society (ESS) club has begun a new and exciting activity (Talkin Talk ESS!) to expand our understanding of other people, their culture and the countries they come from. Our first guest speaker was Yongfeng Zhang from Shandong province in China. We learned that it was the birthplace of the great philosopher Confucius (孔子). We asked many questions about China and we learned that Japan and China share many good things, like our love for good food and especially Korean idol bands. It was great time to talk about how Chinese and Japanese people appreciate being together. Shei Shei, Arigatou and Thank you Yong-san!!

This was our second ‘Talkin Talk ESS!’ event, and this time we sat down with Alshaimaa or ‘Shaimaa’ Naguib from Cairo, Egypt. Can you believe that the home she grew up in was on 10 minutes from the great pyramid?! She showed us a short presentation about Egypt and we learned so much about the pyramids, Arabic writing, delicious Egyptian food, and also about why Shaimaa is in Japan. She said that she enjoys studying Japanese and she wanted to learn more about Japanese culture and the education system. She really likes being in Japan and seeing different parts of the country. We didn’t know it, but there are many Japanese living in Egypt and there are also many Japanese NGO’s and government organizations that connect Japan and Egypt together. It was great to hear that Egypt and Japan have a close relationship. Shukraan Shaimaa-san!!
